Big Beautiful Nuts - the flipping squirrel

that time of year, mostly acorns and to a lesser degree - hickory and walnut

the squirrels have been enjoying a good crop so far this year and for some reason the nuts are bigger and more beautiful -

OK - the main reason for this post - JOY

breaking news, I was driving home from picking up some beer and apples when looking to the left during Dear Prudence - I saw a squirrel catching up a nut and doing a FLIP, mid-air - I cannot figure out if it was a backwards flip or not - but he shot into the air, flipping for joy at his find

we are not the only ones that can manage some fun in the fall

squirrels have it rough out there and I was glad to see exuberance, rather than fear, disorientation, and death

What a nice pick-me-up of a post, on many levels.

a couple of thoughts:
- I LOVE the idea of the squirrel doing a flip over his fortuitous discovery!
- Beer and apples: YAY! We're coming to that season. My recommendations for the fall: Oktobertest, of course. Vienna Lagers, late-season Hefeweizens, and maybe even - for a narrow window, once a year - Amber Ales. All good with apples.
- Sorry to hear that all the other squirrels you've encountered recently have been in the midst of eperiencing fear, disorientation, and/or death. The ones in my backyard, anyway (in the post-Kunai-i years) are fat, gluttonous, and satisfied.
